Colorado Department of Human Services is seeking a registered nurse with experience in paediatrics, psychiatry, or neurology to provide primary care to youth in a secure residential facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for a continuum of care from initial assessment to the development and maintenance of healthcare, including physical, psychiatric, and dental maintenance. Clinic hours for this position are day/afternoon/evening depending on the shift offered.

Minimum Qualifications:

Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with adolescent healthcare.
• Experience with mental health nursing.
• Experience with correctional nursing.

Responsibilities:

1. Evaluate resident's mental status/mental health condition through interview, health screen, health appraisal, and observation.
2. Provide basic mental health intervention and refer to psychiatrist or mental health resource for further evaluation, intervention, or transfer to a mental health institution in collaboration with behavioral health services staff.
3. Follow national standards of care for safe medication administration within the state Nurse Practice Act and the Division of Youth Services policies, procedures, and protocols.
4. Transcribe, order, prepare, and administer medications without error per prescribed provider's orders.
5. Provide individual and group education regarding health promotion, disease and injury prevention to youth and staff on an ongoing basis.
6. Provide ongoing education regarding medication administration, infection prevention, and other health-related topics specific to staff.

Facility/Department Description:

The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. The Campus at Mount View contains three youth centers on the grounds: Willow Point Youth Services Center, Rocky Mountain Youth Services Center, and Betty K. Marler Youth Services Center. As part of treatment, the youth center utilizes a number of evidence-based curriculums for detained and committed youth, including Getting Motivated for Change, Handling Difficult Feelings, Start Now, Voices, and Beyond Trauma. Vocational programming (food services, maintenance work crew, etc.) is also offered on campus.
