As a Consular Assistant, you will be responsible for providing a range of American Citizen Services to the American public, including passport, citizenship, notarial, and other documentary services. You will also provide special consular services and conduct preliminary interviews with individuals seeking services in the American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit to determine the proper course of action consistent with the Foreign Affairs Manual (FAM) regulations.

Salary: LE-8 is equivalent to FP-6 Actual LE/FP salary determined by Washington D.C.

Hiring Path: Open to the public.

You will be required to instruct applicants regarding forms and documentation for passport applications and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBAs). You will also respond and provide accurate and complete information to public inquiries regarding passport and citizenship services and correspond with applicants regarding pending applications that require additional documentation.


Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of four years of experience with increasing responsibilities in consular or other work requiring the application of regulations and law to make independent decisions is required.
  2. Completion of two years of post-secondary education in general studies is required.
  3. Must have a working knowledge of pertinent portions of Canadian law.
  4. Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English is required. This may be tested.
  5. All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
