Job Description:


The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join their team in providing quality health care to Minnesota Veterans and their families. The successful candidate will provide professional nursing services in a long-term care, skilled care facility, specializing in Geriatric care.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess residents' needs and suggest appropriate nursing interventions.
  2. Implement orders and routines and provide skilled nursing care.
  3. Coordinate, delegate, and review work of other nursing staff members.
  4. Establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  5. Provide effective communication and follow instructions.
  6. Use computer systems for electronic charting and basic computer functions.
  7. Make decisions within the scope of nursing responsibilities.
  8. Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care provided by other staff and provide mentoring.
  9. Teach self-help skills to residents.

Qualifications:

  1. Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions.
  2. Knowledge of nursing practices and techniques sufficient to provide effective nursing care for residents.
  3. Skill in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships.
  4. Effective communication skills sufficient to provide and follow instructions.
  5. Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as e-mail.
  6. Ability to make decisions within the scope of nursing responsibilities.
  7. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care provided by other staff, make or recommend. changes and provide mentoring.
  8. Ability to teach self-help skills to residents.
  9. Experience in a skilled nursing facility.
  10. Long-term care experience.
  11. Geriatric care experience.
  12. Experience with MDS assessments.


Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists.
  • Attestation and proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required by the first day of employment, per federal requirements.
